PocketSparky is here to help — the same way an experienced sparky might talk you through a tricky job. But the decisions on site are always yours.
What PocketSparky is for
PocketSparky is designed to assist electricians, apprentices, and others working in the Australian electrical trade. It helps you look up standards, run field calculations, and work through fault-finding with Mick — the experienced sparky in your pocket.
Use it as a practical support tool when you need a second opinion, a quick calc, or help finding the right clause. It is built for real work on site.
What PocketSparky does not replace
PocketSparky is not a substitute for the things that keep work safe and compliant. It does not replace:
- Your professional judgement
- Competent supervision — especially for apprentices
- Licensing and registration requirements
- Australian Standards (AS/NZS) and referenced documents
- Workplace procedures and your employer's requirements
- Manufacturer instructions and equipment specifications
Your responsibility on site
You remain responsible for ensuring all work complies with applicable legislation, Australian Standards, and safe work practices. That includes verifying any information PocketSparky provides before you act on it.
Standards change. Installations vary. Site conditions matter. What worked on the last job might not apply to this one. PocketSparky gives you a starting point — you confirm it is right for the work in front of you.
When to look further
If you are unsure, do what any good sparky would do: check the current standard, read the manufacturer's documentation, and talk to someone appropriately qualified. That might be your supervisor, a senior tradesperson, an engineer, or the relevant regulatory body.
PocketSparky should support your decision-making — not be the sole basis for electrical decisions.
Standards and calculations
Clause lookups and calculator results are provided to assist your work. Always verify outputs against the current edition of the relevant Australian Standard and your project requirements before committing on site.
Mick and diagnostics
Mick draws on practical trade knowledge and standards context to help you think through problems. Mick's guidance is conversational support — not certified engineering advice, not a compliance determination, and not a replacement for hands-on testing and verification where required.
